It is a sad day for me to write about a company which have admired and loved for its products and innovation for more than four decades.
My love affair with Sony started with its radio transistors in the late 60's with its powerful radio receiver you could hear any radio station in the world with its multiple bands to choose from them. Its quality of finish and the overall aesthetics was awesome an it was clear winner against its competing rivals from Europe and USA.
Then came along the Sony Walkman which provided hours of pleasure with its portable personal cassette player, a real winner and even today the songs of the walkman ring in my ears even today. Another awesome winner from the Sony stable.
Then came along the Sony Playstation which kept my children engrossed in the gaming, a stable and nice product with child friendly features.
In my stable are also a Sony DVD player which still works today and also a Sony flat screen Color Television which works even after a decade, the earlier Sony tube television was gifted to a friend who still uses it in his farm house.
A sworn Sony fan I recently acquired a Sony Smart watch which could be better in its design and functionality and lacks the Sony Touch.
The final straw came when I acquired a Sony Xperia E3 mobile phone which works on the Android operating system, the Xperia has been a disaster. The keypad does not work, the phone freezes at random neither does it have the Sony quality or ergonomics. It is good money down the chute. The Chinese phone maker Xiaomi provides a better phone at half the cost of the Sony Product.
With the two new acquisitions of Sony Smart Watch and Sony Xperia E3 which work on the Android I realized that Sony is on its deathbed as a company.
Sony has lost its MOJO for technology innovation and best practices, the recent Sony hack demonstrated Sony faltering in the new cyber world driven fueled by Internet and Mobiles.
Sony has failed to protect itself in the Internet and also the smart watch and mobile demonstrates lack of innovation and attention to Quality. No wonder Apple is the undisputed leader in Technology today.
Goodbye Sony, RIP.
