RIP Sony - The technology leader

It is a sad day for me to write about a company which have admired and loved for its products and innovation for more than four decades. My love affair with Sony started with its radio transistors in the late 60's with its powerful radio receiver you could hear any radio station in the world with its multiple bands to choose from them. Its quality of finish and the overall aesthetics was awesome an it was clear winner against its competing rivals from Europe and USA. Then came along the Sony Walkman which provided hours of pleasure with its portable personal cassette player, a real winner and even today the songs of the walkman ring in my ears even today. Another awesome winner from the Sony stable. Then came along the Sony Playstation which kept my children engrossed in the gaming, a stable and nice product with child friendly features. In my stable are also a Sony DVD player which still works today and also a Sony flat screen Color Television which works even after a decad...

Beacons: The next wave of digital disruption !

You are all set for the final of the cricket match and you have bought seats with vantage points and are now on the way to the cricket stadium. Your mobile tells you where you will get parking for your car and you smoothly ease into the designated parking space. No tokens, no slips, nothing; you park and then the mobile guides you to the bus that will take you to the stadium. As you ride the bus, the mobile highlights the various important landmarks on your way to the stadium. In the next ten minutes you learn everything that is of interest to you. The mobile tells you to get off the bus and then guides you to your gate. You wave the mobile and the stadium gates open for you. Before that you have already been beaconed and tagged an a non-security risk. As you enter the stadium, your body and clothes are fully scanned for explosives, guns, drugs, and other hazardous substances. Your mobile guides you to your seat and the layout of the stadium pops into your screen and it gives you a 36...

Are Apple Devices Secure from Cyber Spying?

M y friend who is a security expert showed me his new  Apple iPad 2 fully loaded with  64GB  RAM; I wondered with such a large global fan following "Are Apple devices secure from cyber spying ?". A search on the web did throw out a number of security issues with Apple devices, I share some of the concerns raised in the last quarter of 2011. a.  Why You Shouldn’t Use H1Siri http://www.idownloadblog.com/2011/12/06/why-not-to-use-h1siri/ b.  GERMAN LEADERS QUESTION APPLE’S MOTIVES OVER USE OF CARRIER IQ http://www.idevicenews.org/german-leaders-question-apples-motives-over-use-of-carrier-iq/225018/ c.Jailbreak 5.0.1 Untethered (iOS 5) – iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G http://www.jailbreaknation.com/jailbreak-ios-5-5.0.1-untethered-iphone-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch-4g-3g d. APPLE may be Pipped by Asian Tigers.

Apple biggest weak spot seemed to be its manufacturing in China, but there now emerges a bigger risk which is in the form of law suits and court hearings. The other Asian Tigers China and Taiwan are now lawsuits against Apple in Korean and US courts. Samsung is fighting Apple in Korean courts and is winning, while HTC is fighting in the US court. This mean the APPLE leadership will have to spend more time in court rooms and keeping their supply chain moving rather then spend time on innovation and building the Apple spaceship at Cupertino (   http://bit.ly/pmLM2U   ). Apple's leaderships will devote time to fighting law suits and keeping the supply chain open , Apple may miss its deliveries for Christmas 2011 and the Asian Tigers may Pip Apple at a this crucial marketing season. #Apple and HH The #Dalai Lama and #Android !

The connection between Apple Computers and Dalai Lama seem to be an outlier. Apple is in the forefront of the Cloud Computing Revolution in the Valley while His Holiness The Dalai Lama preaches peace to  humanity from the valleys of Dharmashala and Bylakuppe in India. The risk for Apple is its products  are made in China and if the Chinese shut down its supply then there will be no Apple devices for the world to use. Last week President Barack Obama met the Dalai Lama and the Chinese have not appreciated this meeting with the Tibetan Spiritual leader in exile. Photo: Courtesy Coloribus http://www.coloribus.com/adsarchive/prints/apple-dalai-lama-1143705/ Given its economic might, China  may stop all shipment of Apple equipment to the world, this will put an end to Apple's supremacy. Compare this to Android which already has a significant market share and is licenced  by Google, the Android operating systems is licenced to a number of hands...

Demise of Messaging is the Advent of Computing

The fortunes of the glorious mobile telephony and  messaging companies RIM the makers of  Black Berry (BB) and Nokia the other awesome company are suddenly losing market share and their bottom lines are hurting. The new stars are Apple and Samsung, what a difference in about two years, the tablet has come to rule and the handheld mobile is also used for telephony and messaging. The hand held device is today's replacement for the laptop and heralds the end of tired shoulders and still better laptop burns on where the laptop normally rests. This is truly the demise of messaging and the advent of computing, with the three pieces the cloud computing service provider, the telco who provides the bandwidth and the endpoint device provided by Apple, Samsung and few others who are ready to ride this change into the world of tablets. The world is changing and what has this to do with the cloud, the power of these tablets are derived from applications from the cloud, the Facebook, Li...
